Through presentations, community outreach, and online resources, the program provides education and practical tools to help you stay one step ahead of scammers.

STOP

Pause before you act.

Scammers create urgency to rush your decisions. Take a moment to stop and think when someone is requesting money or payment.

  • Just hang up!
  • Slow Down! Don’t respond to urgent requests.
  • Be cautious of unfamiliar callers, texts, emails, or websites.
  • If it feels wrong, stop all communication immediately.
  • Never make payments if they request gift cards, Bitcoin, or cash apps.

CHECK

VERIFY BEFORE YOU TRUST.

Check the facts and confirm who you are really dealing with.

  • Be skeptical to anyone asking for money.
  • Contact the company or person using a trusted phone number or website.
  • Don’t click on links or open unexpected attachments.
  • Research offers and check for reviews or complaints.
  • When in doubt, pause and verify with someone you trust or your local police department.

PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION AND YOUR MONEY.

Keep your personal information and finances safe.

  • Never share personal or financial information.
  • Use credit cards.
  • Turn on bank alerts and monitor your accounts regularly.
  • Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication.
  • Lock your credit with credit bureaus.
